Dagmar Thielen (°1995) graduated magna cum laude from her master’s degree in art history at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in 2021 with a thesis on The Ghent Altarpiece (1432).
During her studies, Dagmar held an internship at the Centre for the Study of Flemish Primitives (KIK-IRPA, Brussels), published two monographs (WBooks Zwolle, 2019; Kerber Verlag Berlin, 2019) on contemporary art and was guest curator at the Limburgs Museum in Venlo, the Netherlands.
Currently, Dagmar is a PhD student at KU Leuven.
In her doctoral research she focuses on the ideological reception and impact of The Ghent Altarpiece by the van Eyck brothers (1432) in Western European art (1750-1940), which aligns with the research she conducted in her thesis dissertation.
In addition to her doctoral research, Dagmar works as an academic assistant at the KU Leuven Department of Art History and is preparing a monograph on the tradition of the sublime in contemporary art (WBooks Zwolle, 2024).
She currently also curates an exhibition on contemporary polyptychs based on her doctoral research (Museum van Bommel van Dam, Venlo, 2024).
